Team Boston Representatives Katy Hart and Greg Woolf joined retailers Ghazi Saab and John Shalbey in New York City on November 1st to present the dealer donation check to the American Red Cross at their Headquarters. The Northeast Region retailers donated $677,274.55 to the relief effort. These funds will make a dramatic impact in assisting those effected by the terrible tragedy of September 11th. Thanks again to all Team Boston Retailers for their generosity in this fund raising event.

Trend Forecast

According to Trend Letter, the Courtner Group, Stanford University and Age Wave LLC, the following are several Trend Forecasts.

Retailers and others ignore aging baby boomers at their peril.

Seventy-eight million Americans are over age 50, representing 28% of the populations, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. The most important things to know about this group are that they have spending power and their numbers are growing.

In 1996, the first wave of baby boomers reached the 50-year milestone at the rate of 300,000 a month. They’re healthier, wealthier, more independent and

more politically active than previous generations at this life stage. They will redefine what it means to age, and companies with products and services to sell them will feel the effects first.

Consulting firm Age Wave, which specializes in marketing to the over-50-population, says today’s over-50 adults account for:

  • More than $2 trillion in income.
  • More than half of the U.S. population’s discretionary spending power – 2.5 times the average per capita.
  • 80% of personal wealth in financial institutions.
  • Half of all discretionary income: $13,286 per household.
