Gas Prices Beginning to Rise
Once again the summer months are upon us. With the increase in the amount of travel reducing the supply of gasoline, the price has already begun to increase. Many parts of the United States have already seen overnight increases of $.20-$.30. The press has begun to predict that this summer will surpass the price increases that we saw last year. Is their prediction true? Unfortunately, reserves are currently 5% lower than they were last year at this time. The summer-grade of the newly required Reformulated Gasoline (RFG) that is now required in the larger metropolitan areas has created problems for the refineries. The refineries either lack the facilities to efficiently produce the special gasoline blend or are having difficulty with the RFG’s "Driveability Index," a specification that measures gasoline’s volatility and its tendency to vaporize.

With production cuts in petroleum and storage levels at "end of summer" levels, this summer we may in fact see higher pump prices than last year. It is hard to predict how far the prices may rise, but some analysts have estimated that gas may hit the $3 per gallon price.            Oil Express

   Gas Goodies

Spending a lot of time putting gas in your car and wondering how to fill the idle minutes? Ten Square wants to help. It plans to install 10,000 interactive gasoline pumps at filling stations around the United States. Initially, customers (who typically spend four-and-a-half minutes filling up) will be able to select and redeem coupons for a variety of products. Later they’ll be able to enter the phone number of their destination and print out or download a movie or diagnose car trouble. Early tests show some consumer responses, 246,639 customers used the pumps. 70 selected coupons and 22 redeemed them on the spot.

Grand Re-Opening

Ghazi Saab held his grand re-opening event on March 22-24 at his Texaco Belmont Street location. Although mother nature did not bless us with warm, sunny weather, the enthusiasm and hard work by Ghazi and his staff more than made up for the inclement conditions. Ghazi decorated his Texaco with banners and streamers, instituted a 99 cent gas sales for one hour each day, and gave out free hot dogs, popcorn, and balloons to all his customers.

Two liter bottles of Pepsi for 39 cents were the featured product. Dunkin Donuts contributed with free coffee with any purchase. He also donated a portion of the days proceeds to the local D.A.R.E. Program. The local paper photographers were on hand and documented the event in the Brockton Enterprise. Many thanks to Ghazi and his staff for an outstanding event!
